Have been playing around with some new post techniques for bth Landscapes and people recently – trying to find a new look to add a bit of diversity to my services. I always try to show everything in the most positive and happy way which works very well for tourism, charties and events etc.

However I have been looking through all my old personal stock looking for stormy days to try out some moody dark Landscapes. I have also got a cracking portrait shot I did recently which I have processed in a similar way and I love the look of it – but unfortunately cant post it until the original (brighter and happier) version is published in Countryfile next month.

Anyway here is a sneak peek at what I am talking about.

Bristol had its yearly Zombie walk the other day. It is an event which keep getting bigger every year and is starting to get a bit of a reputation as there are now thousands of Zombies which take part and transform the centre of town. Some people really go all out and spend alot of time and effort with their costumes.

Im not really a press photographer and to be honest I cant really stand being shoulder to shoulder with a load of other togs looking for a generic shot shooting thousands of pictures a minute with very little cerativity, so I took along a little speedlight and grid with a few tungsten and fluorescent gels looking to make a dark image which looks a bit more scary and less like a public event.

I have wanted to try out a few techniques with different gel and camera settings for a while however have never really found a good time to try as I usually try to make people and things look good, not post apocalyptic and intimidating.

Anyway here are a few, not much photoshop work done pretty much all in camera with gels and grids etc.

Im not really a wedding photographer. In fact I have never actually done one. I have always thought if were to become a wedding photographer I would spend some time working as a second shooter/assistant to get a portfolio together. However some good friends of mine from University recently got married in Cardiff and I agreed to take the photos. I never usually mix black and white photos and usually have a gallery for black and white then one for colour but the wedding was very colourful so I couldn’t help mixing in a few colour photos in between the black and white ones. (dont worry im not talking about the tacky selective colour you see in many weddings)

I dont really class myself as too much of a landscape photographer, (I don’t really like to pigeon-hole myself as any single type of photographer) but I recently visited my home town in Devon and  had time to go out to shoot some beach photographs. I don’t get the chance to landscape much as most of my work in Bristol is more people or studio based so I always enjoy the chance to get out into the countryside and make some personal work.

I have got quite a large archive of personal landscape work and when I have time to do all the post I am going to make a section on the blog for prints/canvas so watch this space for ltd edition prints.

I recently did a great food shoot for well known food stylist and author Genevieve Taylor. She has done many high profile food shoots with some very well known food photographers and authored a book called Stew and writes a blog called An Egg a Day which will also be a book soon.

Food photography is something which I really enjoy doing so I jumped at the chance to get some new food photographs to update my portfolio with pictures in a more modern (or rustic!) style. Doing a test shoot like this is a good exchange as I get access to photograph a dish with all the recipe development and cooking done to a professional standard and Genevieve gets a range of food and recipe/process photographs for the blog/any other use.

After having done many editorial food photographs telling the story of food producers I was very happy photographing the ingredients being picked and prepared from the garden and felt at home taking these photographs. The blog is full of great recipes with fresh egg from Genevieve’s chickens and other vegetables/fruits from the garden.
